The canal can be an excellent fishery throughout its length. In the summer, it is used to store water to irrigate farmers fields, so the depth holds up at around 4-6 feet. It is a very weedy water, and always has been, so it is a good idea to take a small weed rake to open up your swim. The fish soon respond and the coloured water proves an advantage. In winter, the levels are lowered for flood defence reasons and it can be quite shallow. The fishable bank is heavily lined with trees, but on the bends on the canal, there are swims.
All access points are clearly marked with large RFA signs – green background / white text (although on some older signs it is green text on while background.)
Check RFA Rules before fishing – for example, there is NO NIGHT FISHING ALLOWED!
‘Section B’ – south bank only, along from Appledore Bridge through to Warehorne Bridge. NOTE – NO PARKING anywhere near Pump House Cottage where the road bends to the right , and cause no obstruction to any traffic at any time. NO fishing permitted at ANY time on the opposite NORTH bank.
